LPA Studio at the VI Jornada de Urbanismo de los Cuidados

On 17 June, LPA Studio participated in the VI Jornada de Urbanismo de los Cuidados, held at the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz in Arrecife, Lanzarote, under the theme “Construyendo la Ciudad Oasis” (Building the Oasis City).

Architect and urbanist Juan Palop-Casado took part in the event with the conference Biourbanism for Arid Territories, addressing the need to rethink the relationship between cities and the natural and social systems that sustain them.

The session focused on the challenges of inhabiting arid territories such as the Canary Islands, where limited resources, biodiversity and the natural limits of the territory call for new approaches to urban planning. Juan’s presentation explored biourbanism as a way of reconciling urban development, nature and wellbeing, moving towards more resilient and regenerative models of inhabitation.

The event also featured Pablo Pérez-Ramos, who presented The Oasis Effect, contributing another perspective on the rural oasis as a model capable of generating life and abundance under extreme conditions.

The VI Jornada de Urbanismo de los Cuidados brought together professionals, institutions and citizens around the need to rethink how we plan and inhabit our territories, placing landscape, water and care at the centre of the conversation.
