The UD Las Palmas Training Centre features a main building that takes advantage of its position to function as an ecological corridor, restoring the ecological connection between the upper hillside and the ravine’s streambed.Â
The cross-section includes a green roof that crowns three functional floors, addressing the elevation difference between the two pitches, thermally benefiting from the “cave effect” created by being below ground level. The functional program includes separate entrances for players and the public on the ground floor, locker rooms and a dining area on the intermediate floor, and a gym, water zone, and rehabilitation area on the upper floor.Â
The east-facing façade features large windows, ensuring a constant visual connection with the training fields. The west-facing façade maintains views of the fields and includes a natural wood lattice to protect it from the sun.Â
The building is designed to allow the continuous breeze from the ravine to flow through (bioclimatic design), maintaining optimal temperatures throughout the year without mechanical solutions.Â
The materials and construction solutions incorporate elements imported from the ecological retaining walls used in the complex. These include walls made of recycled local basalt stone from excavations, arranged in gabions, and combined with vertical green walls planted with native species. Similarly, the stands are constructed using natural materials from the area, avoiding concrete and creating a naturalised atmosphere that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.Â
