Biourbanism as Methodology
At LPA Studio, we design processes, not objects. Through planning and design, we create visions, urban spaces, landscapes and infrastructures where matter, energy, water, information, and human and ecological processes circulate, interact and generate new relationships and forms of care.
In doing so, we seek to support more sustainable ways of living and place-based identities through continuous processes of adaptation, evolution and flourishing.
We focus particularly on southern geographies, where arid and semi-arid climates demand place-specific forms of adaptation and urbanism.
We call this biourbanism for the sunny side of the planet.

A strong connection to specific territories, landscapes, and cultures is central to our way of working. We focus on southern geographies, particularly arid and semi-arid regions. The sunny side of the plannet.
We believe these territories—rich in sunlight, biodiversity, landscapes, social complexity, and outdoor culture—face significant challenges, but also offer unique opportunities we are committed to unfold.

The Instituto20grados Foundation—named after the average temperature of the Global South—conducts applied research to advance knowledge on biocentric ways of inhabiting southern geographies.
The foundation operates in uncertain domains, addressing complex “wicked problems” that lack clear solutions and remain underserved by both public and private actors—yet hold significant transformative potential.
