Biourbanism as Methodology

LPA Studio’s design methodology understands the built environment as a living system, shaped by circular dynamics and the exchange of energy, information, and matter. We work through nature-based principles and participatory processes, embedding human initiatives within broader environmental and social systems to support their resilience, co-evolution, and wellbeing.

We define this approach as biourbanism for the sunny side of the planet.

Southern Bioregionalism

A strong connection to specific territories, landscapes, and cultures is central to our way of working. We focus on southern geographies, particularly arid and semi-arid regions. The sunny side of the plannet.

We believe these territories—rich in sunlight, biodiversity, landscapes, social complexity, and outdoor culture—face significant challenges, but also offer unique opportunities we are committed to unfold.

Sustainability

We aim for all our projects to generate a positive impact on the eco-social systems in which they operate. Rather than being confined to a single department, sustainability is a shared responsibility across all our teams. As a Licensed BREEAM Assessor Organization, we anchor this commitment with measurable, evidence-based frameworks across our projects.

Instituto20grados Foundation

The Instituto20grados Foundation—named after the average temperature of the Global South—conducts applied research to advance knowledge on biocentric ways of inhabiting southern geographies.

The foundation operates in uncertain domains, addressing complex “wicked problems” that lack clear solutions and remain underserved by both public and private actors—yet hold significant transformative potential.
